Telecollaboration Via Wikis

For class, we needed to read some articles about using wikis for telecollaboration. I think that this would be a really cool idea to incoorporate in my final project. I have been thinking about using wikis to help students discover appropriate and inappropriate things to talk about in each culture when it comes to small talk. Dr. Sadler even suggested that the teacher could have the students create a wiki encyclopedia that would be a good resource for the students, as well as future students who could take my hypothetical class. I think this is a really cool idea. It follows some of the reading that we had for this class.

This webiste talks about using wikis as an alternative to textbooks. Since the unit that I am creating does not have a textbook, this would be an excellent way for the students to create their own through collaboration.

I am just wondering how I should incorporate this with good scaffolding in my final unit project. What kind of scaffolding would be needed for the students to be able to accompllish this task telecollaboratively? What if students do not have enough information to be able to complete the task?
